St John's School, Leatherhead Boys-U15B vs St Paul's School
On: Thursday, 09 Mar 2017
Venue: at Home
Today, a tough lesson was learnt. After a hugely successful season thus far, the sun was shining on the home venue and the boys were eager to put in another great performance. However, a long day of lessons perhaps didn't allow the team to properly mentally prepare for the challenges they faced ahead. However, an early goal from Haddad in the first 2 minutes seem to place the team in good spirits and place more hope that the boys could continue on their successful streak. Unfortunately, St. Paul's came back with a bite and utilised the spaces created by some structural confusion within the team, equalising 20 minutes into the game.
St John's, feeling the pressure, had to re-think their tactics and their formation and after a stern half time talk - we returned back to our usual formation. Unfortunately, St.Paul's were more driven and determined for victory, continually blocking any attempts and once again yielding on little mistakes by the Greens and securing a leading goal.
A strong drive from Smedley, Tubman and Haddad led to a beautiful goal pulling us level with our opponents. Unfortunately, on this occasion we could not match the pace, energy and skill of St. Paul's who managed to secure yet another goal.
As time drew closer to the final whistle, tensions grew and adrenaline was pumping - finally St. John's managed to switch on with some impressive runs from our defensive players - we began to work as the successful team that has made the season. Sadly, our driving force came a little too late and St. Paul's left home victorious. Today was not our day. But I hope the boys can learn from what was a brutal defeat on home grown - and use it as fuel to channel some competitive play from the beginning on Saturday. Special mention should go to Arun Tubman and Luke Garlick who consistently pushed the team to up the pace of the game. Today, a tough lesson was learnt.
