St John's School, Leatherhead Boys-U16A vs St Paul's School
On: Thursday, 09 Mar 2017
Venue: at Home
A strong start by St Paul's with some good wide play, saw an early chance hit the post. Just as St John's started to respond to the pressure, a long wide ball was pounced on by one of the two St Paul's strikers, using his pace to get behind the back four he tucked the ball away calmly. For the first time this season we faced a deficit. There was though almost an immediate response with Owen Rowlands winning one of a large number of corners with good hold up play. Ben Bayly rose above the defense and headed home to restore parity. The rest of the half was relatively even, with St Paul's perhaps seeing more of the ball.
St John's took their play up a gear in the second half, pressing more astutely and putting St Paul's under more pressure. Stuart Shannon's return to the team after injury was capped with a neat finish after some crisp interplay between Rowlands and Fildes. This seemed to knock the stuffing out of St Paul's and the St John's team finished the match off with Billy Lee heading home unmarked at the back post.
Still top of the table the team now need to maintain their clinical form to the end of the term.
