St John's School, Leatherhead 4th VII vs Cranleigh School
On: Saturday, 04 Mar 2017
The girls knew they had a difficult match ahead as they were about to play Cranleigh U16As. The coaches at Cranleigh explained that the 3rd team and the U16As are a very similar standard and the U16As had beaten the 3rds just the day before. With this in mind, the St. John’s 4th team were nervous and this meant they struggled to settle in the first quarter. The Cranleigh team exploited their mistakes effectively and were ahead 11-3 at the end of the first quarter. After a quick team talk and a discussion about the girls needing to create space and drive towards the ball as practised in training this week the second quarter began. Sanne Senior and Zanna McMahon played much more effectively by creating space in the mid court. This allowed the ball to travel into the shooting circle more often and Darcy Barnes and India Tonessen scored some great goals. Georgie Radley and Georgie Smith did an excellent job in defence especially when considering how much taller the Cranleigh shooters were. This slowed the Cranleigh pace and although they were still behind the St. John’s team should be very proud of how they played. In the second half of the match, the St. John’s team continued to go from strength to strength and played some of their best netball so far this season. The score in the last quarter was only 6-5 showing just how much the team managed to improve throughout the match. Special mention goes to Georgie Radley as player of the match. Well done to the whole team.
