WON 19-13

The girls were excited for their first match of the season. Part of the team had played together previously but there were a few new additions and the girls spent some time prior to the match running through centre and backline passes which was definitely obvious in the match. The first quarter started with a bit of nervous tension and a couple of avoidable mistakes but on the whole the girls played well moving the ball effectively down the court. This left the score at 4-3. In the second quarter the girls really worked well together winning 6-4 creating a nice buffer as they moved into the second half.

After half time the girls were definitely playing much more cohesively and a few substitutions and position changes demonstrated the potential this team has as they become more comfortable with each other’s’ games. Freya Scarry had an exceptional first match as captain moving the ball quickly into the circle for either Louise Barr or India Tonnesen to score which they did almost without fail. This meant St John’s managed to win every quarter and the final score stood at 19-13. Well done to the girls I look forward to the rest of a very exciting season.

MVP: Freya Scarry
