St John's School, Leatherhead Girls-U14A vs St George's College, Weybridge
On: Saturday, 07 Jan 2017
There was much to prove in this fixture following the tight match last term between the two schools determining that St John's made it through to the County Finals this term. The first few minutes proved rather tense with each side making their share of mistakes and the the play going goal for goal. at 3 - 3 a great interception by Jess enabled a turnover which allowed some momentum to build and with some strong circle play by Eliana and Meg the lead was extended to 6 - 3. Suddenly St George's were finding themselves under pressure in their shooting circle and Olivia and Amy combined well to stifle their attacks. By the end of the first quarter St George's only managed to add one more goal to their score and the scoreline read 9-4. It was imperative that this winning momentum was maintained in the second quarter and good driving play from Anna and Ella allowed the shooters to gain many shooting opportunities. Rebounds were always collected by St John's in both circles and at half-time a good lead had been established of 19-8. Tilly and Holly were given the opportunity to come onto the court of play and after a few quiet minutes both girls slotted in well to play and the scoring momentum was not lost with the three quarter score ticking along to 28 - 13. Jess continued to dictate centre court play and Eliana showed some outstanding athletic ability as she continued to drive into the circle mostly ably supported by Meg. Tilly showed that she was more than capable at working in both shooting circles and the final quarter saw St John's extend their lead to 38-18.
MVP went to Eliana Coaches' Player went to Jess.
This is going to be an exciting season, working with a group of girls who are willing to listen and work hard during the sessions.
