It is a sign of where this team is that a 2-1 loss to one of the stronger teams on the circuit is met with such disappointment from the boys. This was line of those games which highlighted the need to always be at our best and ready to take opportunities, if we wish to dine at the top table.
Some excellent positioning from Ollie Timpson saw him score his first goal for St John's and Peter Sinclair came close, striking the cross bar, but too many shots were squandered to put Reigate under enough pressure, and a lapses in concentration on the defensive saw them score the winner, despite another assured performance from Ewan Armstrong at the back and some solid saves from Tait van Strien.
As ever, many positives we can take - not least that the ball has become much more free-flowing and the development of some of our younger and less-experienced players - but we will surely need and want to play more communicative and aggressive hockey in the upcoming matches; the challenge is on...
