St John's School, Leatherhead Boy's 2nd XI vs Hurstpierpoint College
On: Saturday, 07 Jan 2017
The 2XI got their campaign off to a strong start. Facing a polished team from Hurst, the boys started well, with the likes of Charlie Bennett and Jasper Tresidder controlling the midfield well, confident in the knowledge that Harry Russell and Luke Frost were dictating play in defence. St John's controlled much of the possession but Hurst were keen and able to match their counterparts, with the ball moving from end to end. Some chances by Harry Lynn particularly came close but missed opportunities were eventually converted into a goal by Hugo Allert, making his first start as a senior. The intensity and pace of the game continued unabated and it is credit to both teams, given this was the first game of the season. However, a short corner saw the scores even 1-1, and this is how the match stayed. The last five minutes saw both sides looking for the winner, but a draw represented a fair result to both sides.
All played well, with the U5th (making up half of the team) stepping up well to the senior ranks. Work to do in some areas, but lots of promise from which to build.
