On: Saturday, 14 Jan 2017
Venue: at Home
Due to weather conditions the match was switched from Sevenoaks to St Johns. The game brought much expectation as Sevenoaks had qualified through to teh National regional round. The first quarter proved to be a very tight affair. Sevenoaks started the stronger, looking far more confident in their play and St John's were rather lucky to keep the quarter going goal for goal, with Sevenoaks always maintaining the one goal advantage. The tide turned with an excellent interception from Tilly and strong centre court play from Holly. Eliana found her shooting form and the first quarter ended 7-6 to St John's. The team was kept as was and everyone began to have a sense of belied and purpose. Olivia kept close quarters with her GA and Jess kept the WA out of harms way. Despite the close quarters of WD, Ella dominated the top of St John's shooting circle and in a dominant quarter the lead was extended to 18-12. Amy entered the game as WD with Jess moving through to C. Meg and Eliana exchanged passes in the circle well and dominated the rebounds. At the defensive end Tilly always had the upper hand and Amy provided sensible play that always allowed the ball to travel through the court. The crucial third quarter was won by 5 goals allowing St John's to extend their lead to 27-15. As tiredness crept in during the last quarter Seveoanks gained the upper hand within the quarter, but some calm attacking play from Ella and dogged determination from Meg allowed the final quarter to be drawn and the final score read 34-22.
Eliana was voted MVP and coaches player went to Jess.
This was an excellent result against a team that has some very good individual players. What impressed and undoubtedly led to the win was the way St John's played collectively as a team. Well done girls you played very well indeed.
