St John's School, Leatherhead 2nd XI vs The Oratory School
On: Saturday, 11 Mar 2017
Venue: at Home
The penultimate game of the season was not a challenging one for the St John's 2nd XI as they put 15 (fifteen) goals past The Oratory School, Reading with no reply. It was one-way traffic from the first kick of the ball and St John's were 2-0 up within the first 5 minutes. Toby McRae's first of the season was a lovely strike from 30 yards out. His second was a composed finish into the bottom right corner. Serfozo was next to strike and bagged himself a brace; a winding run down the left channel from Louis Catto took him to the touchline and his cross found an unmarked Sam Serfozo on the back post. His second goal also came from the left, this time cutting onto his right foot and finessing a strike across the keeper to the bottom right. James Walker also scored his first of two headed goals from CB in the first half; a pin-point delivery from Ethan James found the towering defender and he powered the ball past the keeper. An own goal from an Alex Fleming run meant St John's were 6-0 up at half time.
It only took two minutes into the second half to score a 7th. Toby McRae scored his hat-trick with a beautiful curling shot into the top-left corner. Later he would score his fourth. Walker scored his second following a perfectly lofted cross from Serfozo. Jack Rickerd also scored a brace; one directly from a corner and his second a one-on-one with the keeper as a result of brilliant build up play. Joe Jelinek scored a with a bullet of a shot and Louis Catto scored two to mark their last football game for St John's. Finally, following all of his chat, Alec Fleming scored late on to back ups his 'I will score' comments throughout the week. Pat Gilbertson came close late on (after coming out of goal), but the keeper made a smart save.
I don't think we will try our 1-6-4 formation next week against Wellington.
