St John's School, Leatherhead Boys-U12B vs LVS Ascot (Licensed Victuallers')
On: Saturday, 11 Mar 2017
Venue: at Home
In the final match day of the season - a triangular vs. LVS Ascot and once again, our local rivals, Epsom, the boys arrived keen and eager to impress - and that they certainly did! In a very even match against LVS to start, there were some fantastic individual displays of skill and it was clear that all the hard work throughout the season was beginning to pay off. Will and Jo both had some great attempts at goal, unfortunately to be well-saved by the LVS keeper and there some outstanding runs by Archie. Sadly, with a slight slip in structure, LVS utilised some open space and managed to score a lucky goal in the last few minutes of the match.
With a quick turnaround and some Haribo, the boys stepped back onto the pitch to face their rivals with a hunger to settle the score from last time. From the starting whistle the fixture proved to be relatively even, with once again some great runs from Thomas, Osian and Dexter - not to mention so strong defensive play by Sam, Ben, Rhys and Archie, with our strong hold GK - Luke. It was a fast game and the boys continued to give Epsom a run for their money! Luke stepped out of goal and brought a brand new energy and dynamic outfield - this drove the boys into more of an attacking game, and with a great finish from Jo Mullen, our Young Eagles managed to equalise with Epsom 1-1. Unfortunately, all this running began to take its toll - with limited rest and Epsom continued to fight, managing to score 3 more goals. A tough defeat and one that is not reflective of the impressive performance the boys put in today.
Reflecting on the season - the U12B's have come on in leaps and bounds, individually and as a team. Perhaps most importantly. they have learnt the real value of resilience - and being able to bounce back and keep their heads high against some tough opponents. I hope they have enjoyed the season as much as I have, and that they maintain the great attitude towards training and competition in their other sports! Well done Eagles!
