St John's School, Leatherhead Boys-U14A vs Haileybury
On: Saturday, 25 Feb 2017
The Under 14A team travelled to Haileybury to play in blustery conditions without their in form striker Joe Haigh. This did not seem to lower their confidence and the team started well, playing the ball from left to right, searching for an opening and maintaining possession. Braiden Hall and Ryan Trevitt were dominant in midfield, not only distributing the ball well but also displaying their robust physical presence to hold of opposition defenders.
Playing up hill and against the wind is often tiring, but the team worked hard. Merry and Few looked assured at right and left back respectively. Goodman and Rice-Jones tracked their opposition strikers well and ensured they created very few chances.
Ten minutes into the game, Trevitt went on a rampaging run through the penalty box; after an interchange with fellow team-mates, he slotted the ball into the left hand corner of the net. St John's continued to control the game and went into half time one nil up.
In the second half with the wind behind the team and the slope advantage there were more shots on goal, as encouraged by the coaches at half time. Trevitt hit a 40-50 yard missile from inside the centre circle on the 55 minute mark, which flew over the opposition goalkeeper's head and into the back of the net.
Anderson rounded off with an excellent strike on 65 minutes to ensure St John's finished worthy winners. This was a very accomplished performance, adding to the team's unbeaten run.
