St John's School, Leatherhead Boys-U16B vs Haileybury
On: Saturday, 25 Feb 2017
Venue: at Home
In blustery conditions and lacking two regular members of the back 4 this threatened to be a difficult fixture. It was to prove a 4th good performance in a row with Moir and Swiss helping out the back 4 with distinction.Apart from 3 occasions, 2 of which were offside, the St John's defence, marshalled by the impressive Heard and backed up by Dwan, Trimming and Gonzalez, never looked threatened. The first half was one way traffic, with Beech dictating play and Hommasi back to his best in the number 10 role. Andrew Caird scored the first goal, cutting in from the right following clever build up play to slot home with impressive precision. The second was a long ball from Trimming straight to Stevens, who dominated their centre backs all afternoon. Archie drove through the opposition defence and made scoring look easy. Stevens made it 3-0 just before half time and the away side never looked like getting back into the game. In the 2nd half the away side were much better and pulled a deserved goal back. This seemed to wake St John's up who laid seige to the Haileybury goal and Fronzoni scored a fourth after a series of great chances were missed. By now Beech and Hommasi were creating chances at will and it was not long before Stevens got his well deserved hat-trick. At 5-1 the away side continued to look for a second and scored from a clearly offside position. With St John's suffering from a couple of knocks Haileybury still felt they had a chance at 5-2 but it was St John's who scored the final goal, Andrew Caird scoring his second to make the final score 6-2. Three wins in a row, unbeaten in 4 but next come two genuinely challenging fixtures in 10 days.
