St John's School, Leatherhead Boys-U15A vs St Paul's School
On: Saturday, 04 Feb 2017
A mid-week fixture at home to St Paul's was played on a beautiful March afternoon. The visitors were weakened by a rugby fixture clash but still started well, passing better than St John's. They offered little immediate threat but played a couple of dangerous balls across the box and showed that this was contest. St John's harried and ran but the visitors played with greater skill; the first half ended goalless.
The second period unfolded differently as St Paul's appeared to run out steam. The home team's midfield had much time on the ball and began to play better, although their passing still lacked precision. The breakthrough came somewhat fortuitously as Mead crossed from the wide left but his ball was close to the goal, the keeper misjudged its flight and it sailed into the far corner. The goal changed the dynamic of the match and St John's attacked with confidence. A second soon followed as Sellick beat his man and converted from inside the box. Ralph's persistence also paid off as he completed the victory late on.
