This was a valiant start to the season, with St John's dominant in possesion and deserving of more than a draw. The first half saw Abingdon go 1-0 up after a counter attack, and despite a number of good chances, St John's were unable to beat the opposition keeper. It stayed at 1-0 into half time.

The second half started well for John's, with a quick equaliser scored by Sami Zubaidi. However Abingdon were able to pull back two more goals and going into the last 10 minutes, John's were 3-1 down. But keen not to be beaten, St John's showed great resiliance and scored two quick goals; one from Omar Matthias and another from Charlie Parker. The game was on a knife edge into the last couple of minutes, with St John's knocking on the door and coming close on a number of occasions. However it was not meant to be, and the game ended 3-3.

This was a pleasing performance and showed that St John's could be in for a very promising season.
