On: Saturday, 14 Jan 2017
On a tiny pitch, officiated by an uncertain referee. this was not the prettiest of games. St John's, short of defenders, experimented with 3-5-2 with Ethan Heard making his debut in the back 3. In the first half the boys in green dominated possession and Beech, Hommasi and particularly Fronzoni saw plenty of the ball. After one of many St John's attacks Fronzoni found himself clear and his clever work allowed Hommasi to make it 1-0. Within a matter of minutes it was 2-0 as Fronzoni provided another assist for Ed beech to nod in for a rare headed goal. At this point it looked like a big win was on the cards for St John's as the back 3 of Stansfield, Watson, Heard and keeper Trimming looked completed untroubled. A harmless looking attack by the home side pinged around the penalty area, John's struggled to clear and Abingdon stabbed it home. Five minutes later, St John's stood off the home side and with time to turn on the edge of the area Abdingdon hit a delightful shot that dipped over the unlucky keeper. 2-2 at half time.
In the 2nd half switched to 4 at the back, with Gonzalez moving to left back and Hanratty coming on and looking dangerous on the left. Stevens moved from striker to centre back and St Johns looked solid and dominated the entire second half. Caird, Hommasi and Fronzoni looked dangerous every time they had the ball but couldn't created a clear cut chance. The game ended 2-2 and St John's can build on another good performance.
