St John's School, Leatherhead Boys-U16A vs Abingdon School
On: Saturday, 14 Jan 2017
With only 10 minutes to warm up, after turning up late due to the coach getting lost, it was perhaps unsurprising that the match was a bit frenetic for the opening minutes. When we got into our stride we started to create chances. After Potter's header was ruled out from a corner two minutes later Bayly demonstrated his class beating two defenders to slot in at the far post. We started to boss the game and despite rotating players, we kept Abingdon at bay giving Sam Bennett little to do other than clear up long balls. Some neat passing saw us go two up, and as half time approached Bayly completed his hat-trick, and Tressider got on the score sheet with a clinical finish from the edge of the box.
Despite a commanding lead we started the second half strongly and when Rolands was put through one on one, he slotted past the keeper. The chances continued to come and although we were perhaps guilty of not taking all of them we matched the first half score with Woods and Jones both clearing up at corners and Jones again through one on one chipping the keeper to round off a consummate victory. Going into our second league match and one of the toughest opponents from last year we are in excellent form, but will no doubt have to battle a little more against Berkhamstead.
