St John's School, Leatherhead Girls-U14B vs Ardingly College
On: Saturday, 28 Jan 2017
It was a game of two halves for the U14B St John's side who were away to Ardingly College. 4-3 down after the first quarter and captain Georgie Philpott knew the St John's side needed to work on their error rate, particularly in the attack. Much of the same frantic play was met in the second quarter, but this time St John's were able to score two extra goals, to make it 7-6 to St John's at half time.
The St John's side came alive in the second half scoring 9-1 by the end of this quarter. Sophie-Rose Russell had an excellent third quarter, with some beautiful drives towards the ball in the WA position. Georgie Philpott, Yasmin Osman and Lara Quickfall were incredible in the defensive end gaining many turnovers. The third quarter score was 16-7 at the break. Into the final quarter and the Ardingly U14B side came back at St John's and scored 3 unanswered goals at the start, however, these were the only goals they ended up scoring in the whole quarter. St John's then pushed on to score 9 more goal unanswered to make the final score 25-10 to St John's. A second half performance from the side proved dividends and it was great to see such spirit and fight right the way to the end of the match. The shooting of both Emilia Hay and Tishy Rao came alive in the second half, and both players were deserved of the plaudits. Yasmin Osman however, got rightly voted for the player of the match for her incredible defensive efforts at GK. What a game, a great way to set this team up for their last game before the half term against Epsom College next week.
