St John's School, Leatherhead Boys-U16A vs King's College School (KCS), Wimbledon
On: Saturday, 26 Nov 2016
The game started with KCS camping deep in the St. John's 22m area. Some good defence however kept KCS out to force a clearance from a penalty and relieve the pressure.
A series of team errors gave KCS gradual territory and a driving lineout allowed KCS to go over in the corner. 5-0.
Almost immediately St. John's sprung into action with a try from pick and go style rugby from Archie Stevens which was converted by Ben Bound 5-7.
The remainder of the half was a war of attrition with both side showing significant physicality in both attack and defence.
The second half started badly with a poor exit from St. John's which mean the clearance kick was charged down and let KCS score under the posts which they converted to make it 12-7.
St. John's then became their worse enemy and began to gave away numerous penalties which KCS then converted to take the score to 15-7.
A scrum 5m out then gave St John's the opportunity to attack and after several phases Archie Stevens went over for his second to make it 15-12.
As try as they might St Johns failed to get the elusive score to put them in the lead and let KCS take the spoils in the U16A's first loss since the end of September.
