St John's School, Leatherhead Boys-U14C vs Reed's School
On: Saturday, 12 Nov 2016
Venue: at Home
Home to Reed's School (31-5 Loss)
Saturday 12th November
A positive start from St John's culminated in a try by Timpson after 5 minutes. Defensively, St John's started out well, good tackling and a good defensive line kept the larger Reed's squad at bay. Good carrying and rucking by Morgan, dancing runs from Reith and good forward play from De Leo meant St John's were on top for much of the first quarter of an hour. Reed's managed a try against the run of play on the 15 minutes mark which boosted their confidence and brought them back into the game. Spurgeon was upsetting the opposition at the lineout causing havoc giving Reed's minimal time on their lineouts. Two more tries were conceded in the last 5 minutes of the first half.
The second half again started well and the majority of the second half was very even, to-ing and fro-ing from end to end. Tyson offered top tackling, darting runs and solid kicking throughout the game. Sumpter and Winchester performed well after their call-ups mid-game. Timpson offering good running until a knee to the head cut his game short. Despite this even contest, the second half ended similar to the first and two tries were conceded in the final 5 minutes of the game.
The scoreline didn't reflect the performance of St John's and the opposition coach remarked at the final whistle that this game was the closest they had played this season other than their one loss. A lot of positives can be taken and we look forward to next weekend against Haileybury.
