St John's School, Leatherhead Girls 3rd XI vs St George's School
On: Saturday, 10 Dec 2016
What a fantastic way to end the season - a 3-1 win over St George's 2nd XI
The whole squad were present for this game and Vicky, unable to play, managed the side superbly enabling Mrs Parker to get on with the umpiring. From the off there was an air of clam amongst the St John's players and this showed in their general play. They had time and space to move the ball wide and again and again Annie, Daisy and Jem provided great balls to the forward line. The speed of Chloe and Sophie on the right left the St George's defence exposed. Their goalkeeper proved to be an excellent shot stopper but an excellent run from Sophie down the right with Chloe coming in on the goalkeeper allowed the deflected shot to glance into goal. Freya and Georgie managed to put some good runs into the shooting circle but the scoreline remained 1 - 0 thanks to some some goal keeping from Louise
In the second half the defensive trio of Issy, Livvy and Darcy were kept a little busier but they mastered the defensive line well and Issy made some telling tackles and superb clearances. Mid way through the half one bisected the defence and Chloe ran on again and scored a wonderful goal from a tight angle. Becky had a busier second half and linked well with Hollie on the left and Lilly proved most reliable in her back up. St John's dominated the play during the second half and Chloe cracked in a third to gain her hat-trick. Right at the death St George's managed a break away goal but it did not deter from the excellent performance given by the girls. Mr Bawden and I would like to thank all concerned for another great 3rd XI season. Although three matches were lost the level f play and the fixture list shows how far this group of girls have come - many of them playing for their 3rd year. It will be a hard act to follow next year but I ma sure that the remaining girls will give it a preety good go.
