Match Report
St John's School, Leatherhead Girls-U14B vs  Brighton College
On: Saturday, 08 Oct 2016
Venue: Away

The U14Bs fought valiantly this week, but unfortunately it was Brighton College who emerged victorious. The opposition were skilful and relentless and the first half saw out defence battered. However, it was St John's who opened the scoring with an excellent runaway goal from Elsa Rogers who ran from the 25 and struck the ball strongly from the edge of the D between the keeper's legs. Brighton, however were quick to equalise and some fumbles led to an own goal creeping into the far corner; followed by a second goal which was slotted home in an excellent strike. Lydia Sandwell was the standout defender throughout the match, never giving up on the ball and tackling well, driving the ball down the pitch. Jess Hall did a fantastic job in her first outing as keeper and made some brilliant saves, limiting the score, however, Brighton proved too strong for us, scoring a third goal early in the second half. Emma Rickerd capitalised on a run from Poppy MacFarlane to restore some hope at 3-2, but the remainder of the game saw Brighton dominate leaving us 2-5 down at half time. A lot of lessons learnt and something to bounce back from next weekend!
