Match Report
St John's School, Leatherhead 2nd XI vs  Tonbridge School
On: Saturday, 07 Jan 2017
Venue: Away

Following a promising pre-season in Spain and some good work in training, the 2nd XI were keen to get under-way in their first league fixture of the season against Tonbridge. Unfortunately, the opposition ensured there was little for us to celebrate as they dominated the game from start to finish. Some very impressive players in the centre of the midfield meant that the balance of play was always in favour of the home side. It took 12 minutes for the deadlock to be broken as the Tonbridge attack were first to react to the ball hitting the bar from a free-kick. Goals came quickly from that point on. Their strong and fast striker caused problems for the back four of Ben Gadsby, Alec Fleming, Abel Lamaj and James Walker and eventually scored a hat-trick. The score was 5-0 at half time and the advice was simple; be brave in 50-50 challenges, mark their key players and work for each other when in possession. The performance was more positive for St John's in the second half as they asked questions of the Tonbridge defence, but they struggled to breakdown the impressive and organised opposition. Finaly score was 7-0; things can only improve!
