Match Report
St John's School, Leatherhead 1st XI vs  Tonbridge School
On: Saturday, 07 Jan 2017
Venue: Away

It was a disappointing start to the season for the 1st XI with a 5-1 defeat by Tonbridge. The two sides seemed evenly matched in the early stages but miscommunication at the back led to a fortunate goal for Tonbridge. However, from this point the home side took advantage of some sloppy and uncharacteristic defending leading to a 4-0 lead at half time. 2 of those goals were poor defending from set pieces and a quite sublime thirty yard screamer from a free kick. It be fair to say that we were over enthusiastic and this led to a number of needless fouls in promising positions for the opponent - this will need to be rectified next week.

Changes at the break led to a better performance in the second half with John's gaining and recycling more possession. This team needs to play to their strengths more and have the confidence in their ability. We were able to pull a goal back through a Hugo Coughlan penalty but still let in another set piece goal to end the game 5-1.

We know we are better than the scoreline reflects and it is now time for us to move on from here.
