Surrey U12 Tournament
The lower school were excited for their first tournament for St. John’s. The first three games were against tough opponents which were Trinity, Tiffin and The Cedars School. the game against Cedars was a brilliant match to watch with both teams looking like they could score but unfortunately they managed to get a try in the last play. During lunch we regrouped and recognised that even though the results were not going the way we wanted, we are still seeing improvements with every game and the win will come.
In the second half of the day we played Rutlish, Ashcombe and RGS Guildford. Against Rutlish we knew it was going to be a hard physical game due to the size of the opposition despite this there were some outstanding displays of tackling. From that tackle we managed to win back the ball back which lead to a fantastic run from Filip Lissah from our 22 meter line to score try, with some brilliant footwork. Luc Gamber Also managed to get himself on the score sheet.
The next game was against Ashcombe where we started with immediate impact when Lucas caught the ball and beat three people and passing the ball to Filip before being tackled and Filip again was able to show off his speed and footwork to score another try. We then kicked off and with a line of green men chasing the kick and winning that ruck Luc Gamber managed to jump on the ball to score.
In the final game we came up against a good RGS Guildford side. It was a brilliant match to watch for a neutral spectator in that the offloading and footwork was outstanding from both teams. Unfortunately, St. Johns could not get a try to be able to school. The day was a positive with the first win coming and how the players managed to keep going and improving even after a hard start to the day is really promising.
