St John's School, Leatherhead Boys-U15B vs RGS, Guildford
On: Saturday, 08 Oct 2016
Venue: at Home
A dominant opening few minutes saw both the forwards and backs exert their authority over RGS. Some well-constructed phase play moving the ball out wide and then the forwards driving directly lead to Hamish Storrar crashing over out wide. A plethora of penalties cost us any momentum and the first half did not continue with the promise suggested, being characterised by John’s driving forward and then pinned back after another penalty.
The second half however was the performance of the season so far against a team the boys only narrowly defeated last year. Four tries was the least our play deserved the standout a wonderful drive up the blind side from the base of a scrum by Aldridge-Bate, and then a three rocket balls saw Cripps crash over. Sellick also produced his standard magic feet and somehow ran in from half way despite seemingly being faced by a red and green wall. Tries also added in the corner by Genco and Blackman-Rogers.
It was only through ill-discipline that RGS again made headway into the John’s half and a very soft try was conceded on the final whistle with us again down to 14 men.
If we can replicate this performance without infringing the law and get our backs running a touch straighter, then we can expect many more high scoring matches in the coming weeks.
