St John's School, Leatherhead 2nd XV vs RGS, Guildford
On: Saturday, 08 Oct 2016
This was a fantastic display by the team and our game plan worked perfectly. The forwards and backs balanced the game to entertain everybody on the side of the pitch. We scored in the first few minutes with some purposeful and powerful work done by the forwards. This created an overlap for our fullback Mr Tudor to score out wide. This was not converted making the score 5-nil. We attacked their line again immediately afterwards only to be turned over and for them to work up field and then exploit an overlap on the right hand side. They scored the try but did not convert the try making the score 5 all. With some positive and strong words regarding the defence shape from the captain Guy Broad the team come back into the game with even more vigour and scored another two tries with one converted making the score 17-5 at half time. The second half was disjointed due to many injuries to their players. There were 5 stoppages in all and this made it hard to keep the pace and dynamism of our game plan click. We scored a good try early in the half and this was also converted making the score 24-5 in our favour. We had 2 tries disallowed due to forward passes and a few chances went begging due to change of personnel and continuity but the stop start nature of how the game had a negative impact with both teams getting cold. We converted another 3 penalties in this half making the score 33-5 to St John’s. The whole team played well but special mention must go to the youngster Mr White for some powerful running and Mr Freeman for being unluckily judged to have passed the ball forward twice in try scoring situations.
