Match Report
St John's School, Leatherhead 2nd XV vs  Eltham College
On: Saturday, 03 Dec 2016
Venue: Away

This was a good contest for the boys and they found themselves in a bit of a dogfight from the very beginning. The Eltham players were competitive at all the breakdowns and slowed down the way we wanted to play. However with good work from both the pack and the backs we managed to start dominating the breakdowns and we played into their half and score a great try by little James White. This was not converted making the score 5-0 to us. 3Three minutes later the backs once again cut through the opposition defence and score a try by Will Freeman which was converted making the score 12-0. Shortly afterwards we converted a penalty making the score 15-0. The Eltham players began to become frustrated and gave away a lot of field position through penalties and this effected their play somewhat and the referee began to hand out yellow cards for some dangerous tackles. The next try came from some powerful work by the forwards and captain Guy Broad scored. This made the score 20-nil at half time. In the second half and with the wind behind them Eltham made a good positive start and scored within the first minute making the score 20-5. Shortly afterwards they scored again and this was converted making the score 20-12 in our favour. The boys reacted well and put in a very impressive display in defence and Eltham came close a few times to our line but the boys held firm. We found it difficult to leave our half but when we did we took the points on offer claiming another two penalties making the score 26-12. It was a difficult game with so many infringements and a loose of composure from the Eltham side that so four yellow cards. A good performance from the 2nds despite everything going against them in the second half. Final score 26-12 to St John's.
