St John's School, Leatherhead 3rd XV vs Epsom College
On: Saturday, 10 Dec 2016
The final game of the season came upon us quickly. Sadly, it started much the same as many of our matches, with us putting ourselves under pressure and allowing the game to be in the hands of our opponents. Two tries in the corner in both halves summed up the season - scored in the corners as we worked hard to defend the five, but too little defence around the park, allowing them to get there. A consolation penalty from Ollie Attard meant the final score was a 20-3 loss.
However, the game was far closer than the score line suggested, with some great flowing rugby at times, particularly in the second half. Attard and James Walker played their best rugby, joining up in the centres to great effect. Fin Deuchar quietly and effectively continued to be a dominant force, whilst Harry Edwards' passion and commitment meant he played in just one boot for part of the game! The team, though, has grown and shaped itself as the season has worn on, with a squad of 22 turning out for today's match testament to the hard work and enthusiasm seen from all the boys, including those not playing today. All deserve mention for their conduct through the season, however, a moment to reflect on captain, Ollie Hunt, sadly off with injury midway through today. It is not an easy task to manage your peers but he has done so with great composure and to great effect.
We look forward to seeing a few 3XV players showing off their skills in house rugby matches next week!
