Match Report
St John's School, Leatherhead Girls 3rd XI vs  Cranbrook School Girls-U18B
On: Saturday, 19 Nov 2016
Venue: at Home

What a fantastic match this was. Despite the 3 - 2 scoreline, the 3rd X can feel very proud about their performance against a very good 2nd XI Cranbrook side. From the very out set both teams were competitive on the ball. Good crisp passing and full use of pitch made for an end to end game. Cranbrook started the more strongly but St JOhn's weathered the storm and secured a short corner. A text book play followed with Daisy ejecting to Jem who smashed the ball into the bottom left hand corner. It was now St John's turn to put on the pressure . However St John''s had to take care as Cranbrook were fast on the countr attack. Freya had to come up with some excellent and brave saves. However after some attacking play St John's were caught playing to high a line and Freya found herself 3 v 1 and Cranbrook secured their equalizer. A very good solo effort soon followed by their left wing leaving St John's 2 - 1 down at half-time.

The second half followed in the same format with St John's mounting some good attacks but could not quite make the final ball play into the circle. But forced pressure on the Crambrook defence led to a short corner which Annie put away with aplomb. A second short corner was secured with some fine play down the right wing by Sophie. However the first shot on goal proved to be too high and St John's goal was disallowed. Seconds later, Cranbrook broke through the middle and the scoreline read rather undeservedly 3 - 2. Despite laying seige to the Cranbrook goal fro the last five minutes of the game an equaliser was beyond the girls reach.

This was a great game of hockey to umpire and the girls should take pride in how far they have come with their level of play.
