St John's School, Leatherhead Boys-U14B vs Eastbourne College
On: Saturday, 15 Oct 2016
Venue: at Home
The U14Bs were in good spirits going into this match against Eastbourne after their win against RGS last week. The match started well with great attack from St Johns and some unfortunate mistakes for Eastbourne. This led to an attempt at a try by St Johns but this was held up. Luckily this was quickly followed from the scrum by a try pushed over the line by Hugo Battershill. After such a great start Eastbourne gained the upper hand and the remainder of the first half was played in the St Johns half. After all the practise of defence from the week before St Johns did an excellent job continually defending against an Eastbourne team that had some big players. Just before half time Harry Lawes made an interception and made back some ground. This led to a try with twenty seconds to go by Omar. This happened as finally the backs managed to pass the ball out to the wing and Omar put in an excellent run to score. The try was converted by Charlie Woolf.
After half time St Johns continued to work well together as a team and made some excellent plays. Unfortunately there were a few times that overlaps were missed as the ball was taken into contact rather than passed out to the wings. This is something we will continue to work on in training. When the correct plays were made though this led to two tries by Hugo Battershill giving him a much deserved hattrick. Well done to Hugo who was the man of the match. In the last seven minutes of the match St Johns started to tire and Eastbourne managed to score two tries which was an unfortunate end to a much deserved win by St Johns but one that did not detract from the rest of the match.
