A fitting end to the season - great football, lots of goals and a clean sheet. Luke Trimming, who has had a great season, had little to do in the first half. What danger Wellington posed was expertly dealt with by the back three of Stansfield, Heard and Goldsmith. The Fellaini-esque Moir, Beech and Barnham dominated midfield, threading great balls through to the wide men, Caird and Gonzalez. From one such attack Caird crossed for Stevens to make it 1-0. A minute later Caird cut inside to make it 2-0 and a minute later Hommasi beat 5 Wellington players to score a brilliant third. Gonzalez showed his class cutting inside to score a classy goal from the corner of the penalty box into the opposite corner of the goal, giving the keeper no chance. Gonzalez then created a goal for Caird's second. Stevens turned creator to set up Caird for his hat-trick. Stevens himself got the final goal of the half to make it 7-0.
Half time saw Shearer add to the attacking threat. It was Moir who created the first goal of the half, allowing Stevens to score his third. Mr assist Javier Gonzalez helped Stevens to his fourth and Luke Trimming got his second assist of the season with a great ball over the top for Stevens fifth goal of the game. Fittingly, the final goal came from a Gonzalez corner (13th assist) and a decent finish from Captain Tom Stansfield.
A brilliant season, the B's became a formidable side who played football with style, spirit and humility.
