Netball Club Overview – Lent Term 2017
It has been a historic year for the Netball Club, the girls have celebrated a huge amount of success across all age ranges and both pupils and staff deserve credit for the significant progress that has been made. Of the 134 matches played, 93 were won highlighting the technical and tactical development that has taken place over the past 12 months. Only losing one block fixture all year is a massive achievement and is a testament to the strength in depth and wealth of talent St John’s currently possesses. Block victories over St George’s College, Sutton High School, Surbiton High School, St Teresa’s, Sevenoak’s School, Ardingly College, Epsom College, Reigate Grammar School, King’s College School, Wimbledon and Bradfield College are achievements that the girls should be very proud of, coming after lots of hard work and dedication in training sessions across the autumn and spring terms.
6 teams remained undefeated throughout the domestic season and these include the 1st VII, 6th VII, 7th VII, U15BVII, U15C VII and the U14A VII sides.
Katie Littlewood (1st VII captain) and Grace Sullivan both achieved individual success, both being selected to represent Surrey Storm. Littlewood gained a place on the Surrey Storm U18 development side, whilst Grace Sullivan was selected for the U21 squad. Eliana Boateng was also selected for Storm’s Under 16 squad. Our junior players have also been on great form with 5 Under 14 girls selected for the Surrey Country Development squad. A number of Lower School netballers will also be pre-selected to compete for county places.
Highlights of the season include 1st team demolitions of Cranleigh, Epsom and Bradfield, the clean sweep against KCS, Wimbledon and the 1st VII’s valiant efforts in both the National Schools and Surrey under 19 tournaments.
