Match Report
St John's School, Leatherhead 2nd XV vs  Haileybury
On: Saturday, 19 Nov 2016
Venue: at Home

This was by far the best team performance by the 2nds this term. We had trained well in the week and put a lot of emphasis on our game structure and rucking intensity. All the hard work payed off in a complete performance by both backs and forwards playing with confidence and a mental toughness. We dominated the first half with every aspect of the game with the forward playing exceptionally well in the tight and the loose providing good ball for the backs to direct their attack. We lead 11-3 at half time through two penalties and a try from the captain Guy Broad to a penalty from the opposition. Against the wind in the second half we did not let them back in and dominated the territory and possession. The pack was outstanding and performed brilliantly in the set piece by winning balls against the head and also stealing their lineout possession. A big mention must go to Mr Kerslake with some impressive barnstorming runs which gave him 3 tries in the second half with one of them converted making the final score 28-3 to St John's. it would be wrong to name a man of the match despite Kerslakes individual tally as the whole team played with such passion and confidence well beyond their age. Excellent leadership and game management by Guy Broad provided a game I will remember for a long time to come.
