St John's School, Leatherhead Boys-U12A vs Dunottar School
On: Saturday, 12 Nov 2016
The conditions of the day made playing an expansive fast pace game very hard, but with precise passing and brilliant catching we were still able to play the way of rugby we want to play. Captain Ben Macateer won the coin toss to elect to play down the slope first half. We started the game very brightly with Luc Gamber using fantastic footwork before contact and then offloading the ball to Buster O’Callaghan who showed his speed and scored the first try in the corner. After our first score it gave the team real confidence. Thomas Peel showed great power in running through Dunottar’s players. Thomas got tackled just before the try line and with superb rucking allowed quick ball and the backs passed the ball down the line to George Perry to score. Dunottar started to get more possession and tested our defence but as a team we held strong and put in some fantastic tackling especially from Jacob Costard, Joseph Mullen and Will Sumpter. The final try of the first half came through a good run by Louis Norris who managed to beat a few defenders then off loaded the ball to Lucca Brown who drew a defender and passed the ball to Lucas Atkin to score his first of the day. The second half did not start the way we wanted it to with Dunottar able to score a try. With that being said after that hiccup we managed to bounce back and through hard running by Dexter Illsley and James Hardy we manged to keep on putting pressure on Dunottar. Max Gray and James Burfield did fanatically all game with their rucking ability to either secure our ball or disrupt opposition’s. The final try was set up by a brilliant run by Rhys Venmore who allowed Lucas Atkin to score his second of the game. It was a superb performance from the who team.
